Liz Thompson
Liz Thompson is a photographer, writer, radio producer and documentary filmmaker. She has travelled extensively in the Asia-Pacific region and her articles have appeared in numerous publications including Australian Geographic , GEO, The Australian, The Sydney Morning Herald and Good Weekend Magazine. For over fifteen years she has produced radio features for ABC Radio National and Radio Australia.
In 2001 she completed Breaking Bows and Arrows, a documentary shot in Bougainville Papua New Guinea looking at the process of personal reconciliation after a bitter civil war. The film was screened on SBS TV & Vision TV in Canada . It won the United Nations Australian Media Peace Award for Best Television , The AIBD World Award for the promotion of conflict resolution and the Grand Jury Prize at the 3rd International Festival of Oceania Documentary Film (FIFO).
Liz has produced eleven books. The most recent Holding Onto Home, an educational book published by Thomson Learning, explores what makes a place home for a number of different communities. Aboriginal Voices is a compilation of photographs and essays with aboriginal artists. From Somewhere Else explores the experiences of Australian migrants . Fighting for Survival is a series of six books which explores the experience of several communities in the Asia-Pacific region, their traditions and culture and the people’s thoughts and feelings about development. |
